The History of Gevity
The Beginning
Gevity started in September, 1984, when Staff Leasing founders Bill Mullis, Jim Roberts and the late Tom Cooley and Doug Mark laid the cornerstone for what would become Gevity.
Our humble operations began in Bradenton, Florida with the goal of helping blue collar companies obtain protection against on-the-job injuries. By the end of 1992, we expanded our service area to over 15 field offices in Florida and Georgia. Our services grew as well, and eventually they included payroll, unemployment claims processing and health benefits.
The millennium ushered in a new era. Our services evolved and we placed a higher emphasis on human resources. In 2001 we introduced an entirely new identity and changed our name to Gevity HR. Erik Vonk was appointed as the new Chairman and CEO in March of 2002. Erik's industry experience and clear vision brought positive changes. We streamlined our name and brand to Gevity to champion the human resources focus.
2003-2006
Throughout 2003-2004 Gevity focused on strengthening our financial standing with two client portfolio transactions and a $30million transaction with Frontenac Company LLC.
In 2003 we introduced the Gevity Institute, to research industry trends and business hr needs. The research has provided crucial insight giving Gevity the ability to continue pioneering HR services.
Over the past few years, Gevity has realized significant profitability gains, implemented state-of-the-art technology, and delivered best-in-class HR services.
By the end of 2006, Gevity consisted of 42 field offices and was over 1,000 colleagues strong. We have seen a great transformation and evolution happen before our eyes.
